There were 21 players for the Christmas melee on Sunday, December 15th. After Lyn’s bacon rolls and a group photo of all the Christmas jumpers, play eventually got underway at 11:15am.
Despite the forecast of heavy showers the morning stayed dry and sunny. There were four 30 minute rounds with a short ‘half-time’ break to enjoy Chris’s excellent mince pies.
In a very close finish, Steve Daykin took first place with 4 wins +30 just ahead of Steve Lombard who finished with 4 wins +28. Five other players ended on 3 wins although of these only Carol was undefeated going into the final round.

A slightly later than planned finish meant no time for pre-lunch drinks and nibbles as we all departed for the Anatolian Turkish restaurant at Waltham Chase. An excellent meal was provided for 26 of us by the very helpful and friendly staff.
It was then time for the prize giving with Steve Lombard getting the runners-up bottle of wine and Steve Daykin being present with the Cobbett’s Cook’s Christmas Cup for winning the melee. Robin and Viv Tucker decided to share the Cobbetts Curry Cup for the best newcomer in the melee as both won one game and drew another.
