We are sorry to have to share some sad news.
Eric Haskell, whom most of our longer-standing members will know well, died suddenly on the 5th March. Many of you will know that he had been battling ill-health for several years.
Eric had been a member of Cobbetts since 2006, playing regularly at club sessions, in both 9- and 6-a-side leagues and competitions such as the SCPA Winter Double until poor health obliged him to step back in 2018. Always good company, affable, a true gentleman – he will be much missed by all who knew him.
The words below from his good friend Alan Forse describe him well:
“ He was a very generous man with good tales about his life in the Navy and his activities when he retired. He had an interest in bee keeping and loved his garden. Together with Chris he was a volunteer at a local hospice tending the gardens. We always enjoyed his company and we shared stories about his family in particular his grandchildren which gave him so much pleasure. Eric will be sorely missed, however we have some very happy and lovely memories of our times together and may he rest in peace.“
Our hearts go out to his wife, Christine, and all his family at this difficult time.
