We are so sorry to have to share the tragic news of Paul’s sudden death over the weekend of November 11th/12th.

Paul, in his quiet manner, did an immense amount of work behind the scenes to support the sport of petanque. He was responsible for setting-up this website for Cobbetts. He also did much work on redesigning the SCPA website and implemented a method for entering league results and automatically updating the league tables. He was SCPA Membership Secretary in 2020 and 2021 and this led on to him working with Petanque England on the IT work involved in bringing in the Sport80 system for national membership.

Paul, and his wife Hassi, joined Cobbetts in 2019 playing regularly at club sessions, in both 9- and 6-a-side leagues and in various competitions. As you can see from the pictures below, he also joined in enthusiastically with the twinning, terrain working parties, etc. He was a major figure in organising the Presentation Evening where in 2029 he was awarded the Vice-Presidents Trophy for all his work for the region. He was part of the winning SCPA Challenge squad at the 2018 Inter-Regionals and managed this squad in 2023.

Paul will be hugely missed. Our hearts go out to Hassi, and their families at this difficult time.
