Christmas Melee 2010

Sunday, December 12th 2010

After a frosty start with everyone staying in the pavilion for Lyn’s bacon sarnies it turned into a lovely sunny day. As it warmed-up we saw coats being taken off and in one case even someone playing in short-sleeves (see pictures!). Unfortunately the pitch also thawed out so we had to play at the ends to avoid the very wet and boggy middle! There were 19 players and 4 rounds of 30 minutes each were played with a short break in the middle for tea and coffee. After 3 rounds only 3 players had won all 3 games and by the end of the 4th round there was just one – with Dave Stubbs retaining the cup for another year just ahead of Alan Baker who could only draw his last game.

Leading Results

Dave Stubbs            4 wins          +25

Alan Baker               3.5 wins       +18

Alison Stubbs           3 wins         +13

Chris Bradbury         3 wins         +11

After the competition we departed to the Purbani in Botley where there was a buffet laid on for 32 of us. Alan presented Dave with the Cook’s Christmas Cup for winning the melee and Paula the Cobbett’s Curry Cup for the highest placed new player.
