Yet again we were very lucky with the weather. After a frosty start we had a lovely sunny but cold day. Even though several members were absent due to the Pompey v Saints football match we still had an amazing 31 players in the melee! Numbers were swollen by a contingent of Richard’s friends from Basingstoke and a first appearance by son Tim. After Lyn’s bacon sarnies and Chris Barron’s glittering mince pies play got underway. The first two round were of 30 minutes but as we were running a little late the final two rounds were shortened to 25 minutes (did anyone notice?). After 3 rounds only Dave, Alan Forse and Pete had won all 3 games with Dave just one point ahead of Alan. Both Dave and Alan won their final games but Dave stretched his lead to win the Cook’s Christmas Cup for the third successive year.

After the competition we departed to the Purbani in Botley where there was a buffet laid on for 40 of us! Alan presented himself with wine for being runner-up, Dave with the Cook’s Christmas Cup, Steve Brickell the Cobbett’s Curry Cup for the best new player and Marc Cruz some sweets for being the best junior.
