After a breakfast of Lyn’s bacon rolls and Chris Barron’s mince pies, the melee was drawn with four 25 minute rounds. The day started drizzly but by the middle of the final round this had turned to heavy rain! There were 23 playing and after 3 rounds there were 5 players on 3 wins. Unfortunately one of them, Alan Baker, had to sit out the last round with a knee injury. 3 of the others were involved in the same game with Richard and Paula playing against Steve Daykin. Steve (partnered by Dave) triumphed, and with Robert drawing his last game, this left Steve as the only player with 4 wins.
Pre-lunch drinks were taken in the Burridge Club and Lyn was presented with a prize for the best Christmas jumper. Alan presented Steve with the Cook’s Christmas Cup for winning the melee and then announced that he was also the winner of the Cobbett’s Curry Cup for the best new player! It was then off to the Purbani for a buffet lunch with 29 of us eating.
