Sunday, April 13th
Unbroken sunshine, 32 teams and Lyn’s food were the perfect recipe for a lovely day of petanque at Burridge on Sunday, April 13th. As well as 17 players from the home club, there were several teams that had travelled a considerable distance. These included two from Handcross and one from Oxshott, players from Crondall and Bordon and a team from outside of the region from Sturminster Newton in Dorset. It was also nice to see Martin Hughes from the Chiltern Region.
After the morning leagues, 16 teams qualified for the main competition with the remaining 16 in the plate. The defending champions David Cruz and Dave Lucas were knocked-out by Allan Paice and Harrison Ash in the first game after lunch. Allan and Harrison then lost to the father and son pairing of Glenn and Stuart Floyd. Glenn and Stuart went on to win the competition beating Dani and Geoff in a rather one-sided final. It was a good day for husband and wife pairings with Steve and Karen Lombard winning the main consolage, Nigel and Jane Sibbring the plate completion and Pam and Trevor Treend the plate consolage!
There were six qualifiers for the final of ‘Shoot the egg’ but only Matt Silvester (Hampshire Rose) managed to hit it for a second time to claim the cash prize.
