A good weekend for the Cobbetts players at the Inter-Regional championships held at Melton Mowbray over the weekend of September 4th and 5th.
The Saturday saw SCPA Team 1 (David and Mark) win 5 games out of 6, a tremendous effort against some of the top players in the country. Meanwhile the all Cobbetts team of Dave, Steve and Rich, playing as SCPA Team 2, also had a very good day winning 4 out of 6. Jay, playing in SCPA Team 4, performed very well also winning 4. Meanwhile Steve and Dave in SCPA Team 5 recovered from a bad start to win their last 3 games. Hassi, in SCPA Team 7, had an unfortunate day winning 1 game but narrowly losing all of the others, three to 12 and the others 10-13 and 9-13!
The Sunday started with the region playing Kent, the remaining team in Division 1 that they hadn’t played on Saturday. After this match the region were placed 4th which meant they had to play the top 3 regions again, London, Chiltern and Kent. Team 1 playing Team 2, Team 2 playing Team 1 etc. David and Mark finished with 7 wins as did Dave, Steve and Rich having beaten the team 1s from London and Kent. Jay’s team also finished with an excellent 7 wins while Steve and Dave finished on a respectable 5 wins. Hassi’s team started the day well with a win against Kent to finish with 2 wins.
It was great to see Steve Daykin in the semi-finals of the National Shooting competition. Unfortunately he could not quite reproduce the great form he had shown during all the matches over the weekend and lost out to Sofiane Lachani from London Region, the eventual winner.
