You are welcome to join us! To join the club, please contact a member of the committee. The annual club membership fee is due at the AGM each November and includes membership of Burridge Social and Sports Club (adults only).

Current fees (for 2020) are £33 for Adults and £15 for Juniors.

Terrain and clubhouse

The club bar is open Tuesday evening for club night throughout the year. Additionally during the summer it will be open for league matches. Throughout the year it will also be open on most Saturdays, Sundays and some evenings whenever there is a football or cricket match.

Members are welcome to play on the Burridge terrain at any time. If you you need access to the pavilion when the club is not otherwise in use then contact one of keyholders who can loan you the keys. Keyholders are Steve Love, Dave Stubbs, Mike Porter or Lyn Porter.

Both the barrier to the car park and the gate to the track are secured by combination locks. If you do not know the combination please contact one of the committee or Steve Love (BSSC Chairman).

Club nights

Every Tuesday is club night at Burridge, with informal games starting at 7:30 p.m. A contribution of £1 is asked for on club night, this goes towards improving club facilities and ensuring the terrains are well maintained.

There is a melee competition each month, usually on the last Tuesday of the month. There is an entry fee of £1 for the melee and this funds a cash prize for the winner, who also has the honour of winning the George Melee Trophy!

The club enters several teams in the SCPA 9-a-side and 6-a-side Leagues. All club members are welcome to play in leagues if they wish, and there are opportunities for players of all levels of skill and experience.

Player fees are £3 for Home matches and £2 for Away matches (Juniors do not pay). These are paid to the team captain on the night.

It is customary for the Home team to provide sandwiches and snacks after the match. All players are expected to take their turn in making sandwiches for Cobbetts home league matches. To cover expenses, all of the home fees are paid to the 6-a-side sandwich maker (up to £18) and to the 9-a-side sandwich maker (up to £27).

A Petanque England (PE) licence is required to play in league matches. The licence also allows you to play in national, regional and club open competitions, although a few club competitions do allow non-licensed players if the club has their own insurance. The licence also supports our Region – Southern Counties Petanque Association – which organises regional competitions as well as coaching, governance and promotion of the sport.

PE/SCPA Licence Fees 2019:

  • Adults £28 (of which £6 is paid to the SCPA)
  • Juniors Free (The SCPA will pay the £5 due to PE)

The licence runs for a year from January 1st and can be obtained on-line from the PE website. If you do not have Internet access then a form can be obtained from the Cobbetts Membership Secretary.
