Poppy Appeal Doubles 2011

Sunday, November 13th 2011

To persuade some teams to enter we promised a warm, sunny day. Amazingly that is what we got! It was hard to believe it was November. There were 24 teams entered for the 3rd Poppy Doubles at Burridge on Remembrance Sunday. After the morning leagues, this split nicely into Main, Plate and Wooden Spoon. Lyn’s excellent food, a well-supported raffle with many donated prizes, and of course ‘Smash-the egg’ the sum of money raised was substantially more than in the previous 2 years even with prizes for 15 of the 24 teams! Mike and Wayne improved on last year’s semi-final finish by winning their semi-final against Allan and Carol. In the other semi-final Roz and Dave overcame the home team of Dave and Richard. A hard fought final was won by Mike and Wayne.

Amazingly 13 people smashed the egg to qualify for the final. The log was then moved back to 9 meters and this resulted in just one hit! Danni from The Ship taking home the bottle of vodka.

A cheque for £250 will be presented to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
