Initially the entry was restricted to 38 teams but thanks to the co-operation of Burridge Social and Sports Club, we set-up 5 more terrains on the car park and managed to accommodate 48 teams. This still left another 9 teams on the reserve list! Thanks to all the teams for their amazing support but especially those who made long journeys to take part from both inside and outside of the region.
There were twelve morning leagues of 4 teams with the league winners and next best 4 teams qualifying for the main competition in the afternoon, the next 16 in the plate and the final 16 in the wooden spoon.
Just before 11am play was stopped for the traditional two minutes silence for Remembrance Sunday. A big thank you to Mike Moss from Fareham who again attended especially to recite the exhortation during the Act of Remembrance.
Defending champions Steve Daykin & Phil Bradshaw were top seeds after the morning leagues with an impressive 3 wins +32 Second seeds were Callum Lombard & Tomasz Rypien +27, closely followed by Mark Gay and Ameen Miah on +22. Other league winners were Marc Franco Llado & Abi Coles on +20, Tony & Peter Kidd also on +20, Alan Forse & Dan Murphy +15, Roger Greenhalgh & Lesley Eastlake +14, Alex Moriarty & Jonathan Castaing also +14, Nigel Sibbring & Martin Gordon 2 wins +17, Mal Hanley & Ivan Russell 2 wins +13, Christian Revil & Abdul Rahman 2 wins +12 and Frank Charlesworth & Christine Peat 2 wins +9. Joining them in the main, the next best 4 teams were Karen Lombard & Kayleee Thatcher 2 wins+16, Leo Black & James Ellis 2 wins +14, Nick & Mike Hillier 2 wins +13 and Stuart Brown & Nicki Scott 2 wins +8. Allan & Carol Paice were extremely unlucky to miss out on the main competition because they were also on +8 but had scored fewer points for!
In the afternoon knock-out rounds top seeds Phil & Steve were beaten in the quarter-finals by a great performance from Nigel & Martin. Second seeds, Callum & Tomasz, progressed to the semi-finals with victories over Nick & Mike Hillier (the Botley Butchers making their annual return to the game) and the strong Bath/London pairing of Alex and Jonathan before losing to the all London team of Christian and Abdul. Martin and Nigel’s great run came to an end in the Semi-finals against Marc and Abi.
Marc and Abi triumphed 13-3 in the final against Christian and Abdul. A tremendous performance given that you can count the number of competitions Abi has played in on the fingers of one hand and she had only taken out PE membership less than a month ago! Marc and Abi become the first winners of the Paul Leverett Trophy, given by Cobbetts and presented by Hassi, in loving memory of her husband who tragically passed away on Remembrance Sunday 2023.
Ameen, runner-up in the Main consolage last year, went one better this time triumphing in the final playing with Mark Gay against Roger & Lesley.
The Plate competition was won by Stuart and Ash who beat the Bordon pairing of Richard and Robin in the final. The Plate Consolage was again won by Dave Lucas against Gay & Adamos.. This time Dave was playing with Terri Cox, who he beat in last year’s final!
The Wooden Spoon competition was won by another Cobbetts pair, Dave Kilshaw & Carrie Litchfield who defeated Alex and Sally from Parley in the final. The Spoon Consolage final saw Hilary and Shirley defeat a very promising new team from Fareham, Maggie and Dave.

The raffle had many prizes, all donated, which raised a very large sum thanks to everyone’s generosity. Steve Daykin correctly chose Lionel in the Name the Bear competition. Thank you to Jim Bardell’s sister for dressing the bear in appropriate uniform.
Chris Barron, as always, worked extremely hard in the kitchen to provide breakfast bacon rolls and excellent soup and chilli jackets for lunch. A huge thank you to Chris. Thank you to everyone who helped by baking and donating lovely cakes, Jim B for his delicious sausage rolls, Paul Bone for building the additional terrains in the car park, helpers with the raffle, helpers behind the bar, helpers with organisation etc, etc.
