There was an excellent turn-out of 36 players for the Cobbetts Christmas Melee. This was a very convenient number as it meant all of the games could be doubles. After tea/coffee and mince pies, play got under way at 11:45ish and we played 4 rounds of 30 minutes.
After 3 rounds only Mark Robertshaw and Jim Ireland had won all of their games although Bernie, who had drawn his opening game, was also undefeated. Jim was ahead at this point on +28 having had two big wins and Mark was trailing on +22. Mark was drawn to play with Bernie, which unfortunately for Bernie meant he couldn’t win the melee, but they did win their game 13-0! This was enough for Mark to narrowly overtake Jim, who also won his final game, and take home the Cobbetts Christmas Cup..
The Cobbetts Curry Cup goes to the highest placed new member and there were several contenders on 2 wins and Chris Richards took home the trophy with a points difference of +2.

A very enjoyable after match American supper followed with Ali setting a Christmas themed quiz. Thank you to all who helped provide a lovely spread of food. Jim Bardell on the ukulele, accompanied by the Cobbetts Crooners (Steve Brickell, Viv Tilbury and Terri Cox), then entertained us with a variety of songs.
